Stretford Ees Nature Reserve:Manchester,England.

The title translates as 'Cold Dawn' (I think) which is fitting as I am still suffering the effects of hypothermia....... I think a frost bitten toe may have just fallen off.....ah....yes,I'd better go find a needle and thread...... and maybe some of that sticky tape plumbers use.

Comments and suggestions are always very welcome.

I love all the dark purple offset by the thin line of orange :) The sky reminds me of a blanket being pulled over the world. The whole image just feels very soft and soothing to me.

Sorry I haven't got anything terribly inspiring to say, I'm all fizzed out from finals week (one more to go!) at my university. Almost done! And then Christmas! :D Yay!

I love the effect you've achieved here. The colour and lighting give this an almost "otherworldy" feel, and the composition has wonderful balance.

Thanks Karla.

It didn't display quite as it should online so I lost aptience and decided it would probably be better served as stock.
I do like it but it feels slightly empty like I forgot to pick a subject and just shot anywhere, wich actually is possible given how cold it was. Also, the quality is a bit ropey on reflection,I shot this on 'auto' though so I probably can't comlain too loudly about the end result=D

If you can find use for it I'd love to see what you can do=D

Tell me about it,mines been missing for a good three months now and keeps tempting by coming back a little and then pissing off again.........ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!=D

I wouldn't worry too much though Karla, that little spark never truly dies for an artist of your quality.I tend to view it as creative growing pains, the skill hasn't gone it's just that you expect more of yourself as you grow and develop and it can take a while for the talent and skill to find a happy balance with each other.
I 'usually' find after after an extended and intesnely infuriating period of creative blockage that I make a new breakthrough when it clears and something I struggled with becomes that little bit easier.
In the meantime just do it for fun without any pressure and when you least expect it something will click into place.

Good luck with it Karla:w00t:

Thats just it Matt....I feel I am at a crossroads with my work....ive come so far since my first pieces and i dont want to just make nice pieces....i want to make spectacular pieces but spectacular is not in my skill level and im just not happy making mediocre pieces anymore. For quite some time now my pieces are getting less and less views and comments....pieces i have had up for months now still havent reached 1000 views when this time last year my pieces would get 1000 views in the first 2 days and yet i feel my work now, a year later is so much more refined and better than those earlier pieces. I just dont get it. I try all genre's of manips, dark, emotional, fantasy and personally i feel it stands up well next to some of the good art in here but when you see 12000 views in 2 days for a piece with a girl in a gown standing next to a grave stone with no scenery or any thought put into creating any kind of definable scenery around her other than blue background.....well it just rots my sox. To be honest.....i have given up Matt....simple as that.

Well, first things first: If you give up I will hunt you down and bring the smackdown.I don't know if you mean DA or art in general but both would be crazy talk for thier own reasons and certainly giving up art full stop would be an absolute traversty.......did I speel that right?

As far as the DA side of things go don't make the mistake of thinking views and faves equal quality or a reflection there of because as much I love it this site it is as comercial as your local Mc Donalds and absolutely full to brim of people who know 'how to play the game'.Trust me,bar the very few awe inspiring, can't resist type of artists anyone with over a 100K pv's is someone who very definitely know's which side thier bread is buttered and how to get attention.Hell, the only reason I have 50 odd thousand is becuase I gave out over 15k faves.Next time your on a ';popular' deviants user page just have a looksee at how many faves they've given out or comments made,it really puts things into perspective for me.Not,of course, that theres anything wrong with being generous with the ol' faves but it does just show how many people actually deserve the attention they get in terms of thier artistry....the sad fact is that there aren't all that many. But that's fine becuase at the end of day DA is at the main stream end of art sharing on the internet, and as I say, a little on the comercial side.
Don't get me wrong I sympathise completely with what you're saying in fact I very nearly closed my account about two months ago for one reason or another (part of a tantrum probably) and just recently I too have noticed a big,big decline in views and particulary comments. And god only knows I sympathise with how frustrating it is too see what is for all intents and purposes a turd get flooded with a thousand plus faves and god knows how many views...but that's just DA I'm afraid.Don't forget a big,big proportion of the DA community are children and with the greatest of respect to even the most artistically gifted kids, kids very rarely know shit other than 'ooooh pretty colours' or'oooh popular deviant....he'll like me if I fave his work'.
It's not all kids fualt of course, there are probably just as many adults that should know better but are willing to sell thier artistic integrity for the sake of being seen to hang with popular people.I mean seriously, have you seen those people that leave sycophantic comments on every single piece of art pposted by a popular deviant....nobody ever says it but it's pretty blatantly sickening. It's an unfortunate by product of our celebrity obsessed age that unfortunately spills over into DA and it probably will never change. But DA is what it is and as unforunate as it may be people are what they are...........and a fair percentage of any any mass group of people are always going to be fucking idiots.

Hmmmn I was intending to try and talk you into staying and seemed to have convinced myself to leave instead.....I guess my point is DA is either worth the odd bit of bullshit or it's not.Personally I think it is and I hope you decide it is too.I don't know what it is about this place but everyone I get on best with ends up leaving (must be the effect I have on people) one way or another....quite a few have been banned for some reason.

If you mean art in general and mean quitting full stop then all I can say is 'DONT BE BLOODY STUPID!!!!'....if you didn't mean that then I apologise profusely for swearing at you.
Any artist worth thier salt experience's cross roads and frustrations, block's and ....erm...something else, it's just part of the package unfortunately. All I took from you said is that you want to grow as an artist and all I can say in response is good.It tells me your an artist that isn't happy with the mere adulation of a few sycophantic cling onn's and dont want to just coast with popularity as your claim to fame.
Quality and popularity are two completely different things and there are far too many on this site who are happy to have one without striving for the other. They aren't mutually exclusive, there are many here who do have both but the brain dead masses aren't always capable of making that differential and that leaves the kind of middleweight people like you and me floating in the debris.

Oh and by the way you're wrong. You do have ,if not the skill currently, then the potential to be spectacular. It might take time and many frustations before you get to where you want to be but it's yours for the taking and in the meantime you've produced and presumably will continue to produce top quality art wether it's appreciated or not.
I thinks it's the nature of the 'true' artist to always be lookiing forward in the hopes of that next great leap and so never truly appreciate where they are.Take an old piece, place it next to a new one and if you can see the leaps you've already made you know the next one will not be far behind.I guarantee it.

mate, to make photos display online properly, here what you should do:
when you're done with your photo on PS, go to file>> save for web and devices>> choose your options there (jpeg, gif..etc)>> done
This will display the photo exactly as it is on the internet browsers ;)
Good luck!

I LOVE this! Excellent work! The ice ring looks great.

Did you, by any chance, use the Clarity slider in Lightroom for this image? I say this because the soft peach tones nearest to the sun look a little banded/graded. Other than that, the rest of the image looks wonderful. :)

Ice ring...is that what that bloody thing is?I thought it was a lens flare at first but it's on too many shots and in the same place relative to the sky for it to be.I couldn't figure it out.I do of course now have to ask now what an ice ring is?

Not to make excuses but the whole thing isn't displaying quite as it should online..........it's not an excuse...honestly=DThe sky looks a lot more grainy and the colours are more blotchy....don't get me wrong, there was already a wee bit of grain but it looks much worse online. The whole tone of the image is meant to be a lot darker than its displaying in my browser too......sigh...

Thank's though Dax,I'm glad you like it mate:w00t:

An ice ring is similar to a rainbow (which is a lensflare itself) but an ice ring is often more complete (circular) than a rainbow. High ice particle content in the clouds or atmosphere causes it. If you look closely you'll see it "flare" or dense up near the clouds and go sparse when there aren't clouds in a region.

Excuses, excuses! LOL - just kidding. The image is just fine. Of course since you've seen it different it may look sub-par to you, but for us who have seen only this, it looks quite good, so don't worry about it. :D
